Frequently Asked Questions - Acoustic Labs Audio Editor

  1. What is Acoustic Labs Audio Editor most often used for?
The Acoustic Labs Audio Editor can be used for a variety of recording and editing needs. If you have an audio editing need, the Acoustic Labs Audio Editor is most likely your solution.

It can do everything from creating, editing, and fine tuning a professional audio production to recording your voice and applying a robot effect to your voice; you will see what your sound would be like.

  2. How do I record audio from microphone or line in input of my computer?
Audio recording settings are controlled at the operating system level (Windows) and not the application level (Acoustic Labs Audio Editor).

To change your audio settings you'll need to open the Windows Sound Manager by double clicking on the small speaker icon located in tray. The tray is located in the lower right hand corner of your screen - just to the left of the clock. See visual aid 1.

After the Windows Sound Manager has been opened, select "Options" and then "Properties" from the pull down menu system. See visual aid 2.

  3. How can I check if my audio cables are plugged in corretly?
For the vast majority of computers, the audio input and output plugs are located in the back of the computer (visual aid 1). There are three main types of 1/8 inch adapters:

Audio Output: This is usually labeled green in color. Make sure this is where your speakers or headphones are plugged in.

Microphone Input: This is usually labeled pink in color. If you wish to record using a microphone, make sure it is plugged into this adapter.

Line-In Input: This is usually labeled blue in color. If you wish to record by taking a line out of a device (such as a stereo, musical keyboard, drum machine or etc.), make sure it is plugged into this adapter.

  4. Why am I unable to open some WMA files?
First, you may not have the Windows Media Package installed. This package is minimal in size, released by Microsoft and required if you want to have WMA support. The package can be downloaded from http://www.acoustic-labs.com/wmfdist.exe

After installing the package, if you still have problems of opening a WMA file, it may be that the file you're trying to access has been protected. Windows Media uses access restrictions to protect copyrighted media.
