Pattern Editor
The Pattern Editor contains four essential interfaces: the Toolbar, the Kit panel, the Track, and the Step Dialog.
Toolbar
Kit Panel
The Kit Panel shows you the current kit in use in your project, and allows you to drag the current kit in to the Kit Library.
Track
A Track represents a single instrument in your pattern. Once a Sample is loaded onto a track, the Step Buttons can be turned on or off to represent hits of that instrument in your pattern. In the above example, a total of five steps are turned on.
Step Dialog
Clicking on the down arrow on a step button will bring up the Step Control Dialog. This dialog allows you to change many more options per step.
Frequently Asked Questions - Acoustica Beatcraft
- Do I always have to play a sequence back from the beginning?
No! There are three Play buttons in the Sequencer pane. The first play button will play the sequence from the very beginning. The second play button will play the sequence starting at the current 'caret' position. To set the caret, click anywhere on the sequencer track. A black line with two small triangles will appear, representing the caret. The caret can be placed on any beat in the sequence. The third playback option will begin playback from the green 'loop start' sequencer flag. This flag can be placed anywhere in the sequence, as long as it is to the left of the red 'loop stop' sequencer flag.
- How do I make a custom drum kit?
Here's how to make your own custom drum kits in Beatcraft:
1) In Beatcraft, click on the File menu and select New Project.
2) On the "Project Properties" sceen, choose "" for the "Choose a drum kit to use" setting.
3) Drag the drums you want into your new kit from the Sample Library.
4) When you've got your new kit the way you want it, drag the new drum kit to the Kit Library.
5) If your new kit doesn't fit into any of the existing drum kit group categories, you can create a new group by right-clicking on one of the existing groups (for example: "Rock") and selecting "New Group..." Give it a name and save it and you can then drag your new kit into the new group.
- Can I use loops I've created in Beatcraft in other programs?
Sure! Beatcraft will export loops in WAV, WMA, MP3, and OGG formats. Any loop-based music program should be able to load these loops and use them.
- I made an MP3 loop but it won't loop properly in my other software!
MP3 is not a good format to use for looping, because MP3 files contain an unspecified amount of silence at the start and end of the file. To achieve a usable loop, use WAV, WMA, or OGG formats.
- I don't like having to click twice to get a step's volume at 100%! Is there any way to change this?
Yes. Beatcraft's volumes are user adjustable, with up to four programmable volume stages. From the Main Menu, select Preferences from the File menu, and select the Miscellaneous tab. Look at the Step Volume Levels section.
By default, Beatcraft's first step volume is 60%, followed by 100%.
If, for example, you only want 100%, you can set Level 1 to 100% and turn off Level 2.
