  • Pitch: Decreases or increases the pitch (tone) of voice.
  • Duration: Increases or decreases the duration of the recording without altering the pitch and vocal tract length.
  • Gender: Adjusts vocal tract length to match adult male, adult female, or child vocal tract characteristics.
  • Robot: Removes pitch variation and synthesizes constant pitch (monotone) output just like a robot's voice.
  • Reverb: Adds reverbaration to the output. The amount can be adjusted using the corresponding slider.
  • Whisper: Adds whispering effect to the output voice.
  • Chorus: Adds chorus effect to the output voice.
  • Sampling Rate: Sampling rate corresponds to the number of samples per second in a single channel digital audio file. The "Sampling Rate" combo box sets the input and output sampling rates. VoDi 1.1 supports 8000, 11025, 16000, 22050, 32000, 44100, and 48000 Hz. Sampling rate is closely related to sound quality. The quality of the recording increases (as long as no interference exists in the higher frequencies) as the sampling rate increases. As an example, 8000 Hz roughly corresponds to telephony line quality. 16000 and 22050 Hz are widely used for speech processing applications. 44100 Hz corresponds to CD quality. 48000 Hz is used for applications that require very high quality sound such as movie dubbing. A disadvantage of increasing the sampling rate is that more processing power is required to perform voice modification which may limit the performance in real-time operation.
  • Expander (Expand): Increases higher amplitude values as compared to lower amplitude values. Expands the dynamic range that results in "richer" sound quality.
  • Compressor (Comprs): Increases lower amplitude values as compared to higher amplitude values. Narrows the dynamic range in order to reduce sudden increases/decreases in the volume level.
  • Limiter (Limit): Hard-limits amplitude values exceeding the gain threshold set using the "Limit" slider. It is useful to eliminate sudden pops and clicks.
  • Noise Gating (Gate): Sets the amplitude levels below the gain threshold specified by the "Gate" slider to zero. This effect can be used to remove noise significantly if the noise level is below the audio level.
