Frequently Asked Questions - WeatherAloud
- I was unable to complete the download, what can I do?
Be sure to try downloading from more than just one location. If you have a problem downloading from our primary location, try the alternate download sites listed underneath that one.
- I downloaded WeatherAloud, now how do I install it?
Use Windows Explorer (right-click Start-> Explore) to locate and open the file you downloaded. If you forgot the file name and/or folder you downloaded to, click on the download link to open the download window and note this information without starting another download. When you loctate it, just double left-click on the file and then follow the directions to install WeatherAloud.
- I'm looking at the program screen, how do I get started?
The city nearest you, that you selected during installation should be currently selected. Click the Update button and you'll see the latest weather information updated. Click the Conditions button and current weather conditions for the city will be read aloud. Click the forecast button to hear the forecast for your city. Also notice that on your taskbar in the System Tray, near the clock, the temperature for your city will be shown.
- How is the weather data gathered?
WeatherAloud currently uses WeatherUnderground.com, although other choices for data sources will be provided in future releases. Data is from National Weather Service offices within the US, and a variety of weather stations worldwide.
- How can I see which cities are available?
If you click View->Global Locations, it brings up a window that will let you choose any of over 7500 locations, and then just click Add->MyCities button once the desired location is selected.
- Why isn't my city listed?
WeatherAloud currently has over 7500 locations worldwide, so although your city may not be listed yet you should be able to find another city close by that is listed.
- How do I set up WeatherAloud for automatic updates?
Click Options->WeatherAloud Preferences and you will see a setting to specify the interval of automatic updates. Also note that clicking Options->Auto Read Settings allows you to specify times and intervals that weather information should be automatically read aloud.
- When I select Celsius, why are some temperatures still read in Fahrenheit?
Selecting the Celsius option does correct the temperature read aloud as part of current conditions and the temperature shown on the thermometer. There is currently a bug in version 1.0 that causes the temperature shown in the system tray to be displayed in Fahrenheit. This will be corrected in version 1.01. The temperature shown in the forecast area is more difficult to convert since the forecast is returned to us as a text string. We will be working on a solution for this soon.
