- How come I do not see the "GeneralCOST" menu inserted among the Excel menu system?
Check the following.
- Click Tools > Macro > Security. Then click on "Medium" security.
- Close the GeneralCOST.xls file, then open it again. At startup click on "Enable Macros".
Now, you should see the "GeneralCOST" menu inserted among the Excel menu system (between Window and Help).
- When I open GeneralCOST Estimator, why does a menu called "GeneralCOST" appear in Excel's menu bar?
In order to make our system as easy to use as possible, we added functions to the familiar existing interface, namely the Excel menu bar. The GeneralCOST menu item shall be there *only* when you are using the GeneralCOST.xls file. When you leave, it will disappear from Excel's menu.
- How do I start a new estimate?
To start with an empty Estimate worksheet, click on Clear Estimate
- Where are standard cost data stored in GeneralCOST Estimator?
Standard cost data is stored in worksheets representing cost categories in construction. Example: General, Sitework, Electrical etc. Click on the tab at the bottom of the worksheet to access the Data sheet.
- How can I enter or change my Overhead and Profit applications?
Use Rates worksheet.
- How does GeneralCOST Estimator work?
With GeneralCOST, the main estimate is created using a convenient wizard interface which goes through all cost categories allowing you to select one or more items from each category page. Subsequently you can insert additional custom cost items to the estimate. The program automatically applies overhead and profits and makes city cost index adjustments.
- What does City selection do?
When you select your city from the "City" page of the wizard, GeneralCOST will apply the city index (factor) to the construction costs.
- What should I do if my city is not in the list?
Select a city that you believe is close in terms of costs. Alternatively, you can edit an existing entry or add your city to the list.
