Project Budget Manager 3.1 - User Guide and FAQScreenshots - More DetailsMost affordable project management programs like Microsoft Project and CA SuperProject focus primarily on the scheduling aspects of project management and include very limited means of tracking project costs. Programs that provide more extensive project cost control capability like Open Plan¸ are very expensive and still require the user to program the budget tracking requirements for each company’s needs. Affordable project managers are usually capable of tracking labor and material costs for each activity although it is frequently not desirable to monitor project budgets on an activity-by-activity basis. Many projects are better monitored on a category bases such as staff costs, labor costs, material costs, subcontractor costs and so on. These categories seldom match typical project schedule activities. Most project manager programs require the user to supply the project expenditure as a total for each activity. Recording relevant data and totaling expenditures is not possible. Project Managers may be able to obtain data from their Purchasing/Accounts departments, but seldom can obtain the information in a format that can be used to manage the project budget.
