About The Wizard Structure

The wizard screen that will accompany you through your process consists of three main parts. The wizard steps bar that will show you your location and spot your location with dark colors, taking the next step, step processes that will take you back to your current position or burst upon your process and the content part that displays different options at every step.

Style Matching (Step 2)
Within Microsoft Word, with the help of this list, you can summarize the parts that belong to just these features by running the styles either you created or Microsoft Word has created for you. You can identify the headers that will be created in the output in advance, by changing the names of the styles in the 4th step.

Grouping (Step 3)
You can identify the information which your summary will be grouped under with this step. The grouping options that you will mark here will be contained in your summary report. According to the ranking, these headings can repeat one under the other more than once. However, don't forget that the grouping options that you will mark unnecessarily will slow down your summary process.

Color/Style Names (Step 4)
If you choose the grouping options that you choose according to the color and/or style, at this step, you can identify the headers that will be created in the summary report in advance, by changing the names of these colors and styles. The report that is created with this way will be presented to you without any need for future editing. Please don't forget that you can only change the names of the styles that you choose in the second step.

Search Words and Formatting (Step 5)
You can limit your searches with a specific text. At this point, you can do this by writing down the keywords on the search box. You may prefer using wildcards in this information box. To do this, it is enough to mark the related box. Browse the Microsoft Word help documentation to have more information about the wildcards.
Furthermore, by using the related menu in this part, you can make your identifications for font and paragraph.

Output Settings (Step 6)
You can change the configuration of the summary document that will be created by advDigester by using this screen. Browse the related help heading for details.

Frequently Asked Questions - advDigester

  1. Q: I've closed advDigester toolbar mistakenly and I cannot find it now. What can I do?
A: Go to View/Toolbars menu from Microsoft Word, check advDigester from the list. If toolbar is not listed this means it's removed completely. If this is the case, quit Microsoft Word and uninstall/reinstall advDigester. This will bring your toolbar back.

  2. Q: I've found a Regular Expression string from internet. But when I create a module in advDigester using that string, advDigester finds nothing and/or goes into an indefinite loop. What is the problem?
A: There are two possibilities. Not all regular expressions are supported by Microsoft Regular Expression engine. So please check the originating site whether the regular expression is valid for Microsoft engine. If site says that the string is compatible then there may be a syntax error that prevents advDigester to produce output. Check your regular expression strings.

  3. Q: I've a document which is highlighted with different highlighter colors according to the severity of section. Can I extract these sections and organize them under headings that I've choose?
A: Yes. Select "Group by colors" at step 3, select "Summarize highlighted sections only" from step 4 and rename colors as you want...

  4. Q: Is it possible to organize by headings also in the document that I've created in previous question?
A: Yes. Also select "Group by headings" option from step 3. You can change grouping order if you want also.

  5. Q: In my document, I haven't used highlighter for marking. I've underlined them. Is it possible to extract these?
A: Absolutely yes. In step 5 pull down Formatting Options menu, select Define Font Format, clear undesired options and select Underline Style as Single line. You can also use any other font/paragraph formatting combination as extracting criteria.

  6. Q: In a forwarded e-mail, I've plenty of e-mail addresses of my friends. But they are massed up and I cannot enter them to my Outlook Address book. Can advDigester help me about this issue?
A: Yes. Copy and paste the content of your e-mail to an empty Microsoft Word document. Run advDigester and select E-Mail Address module. Save output as a text file and use Outlook's built-in Import/export Wizard (placed in Outlook's File menu) to imprt these e-mails to your Contacts folder.

  7. Q: My document is too long. What I need is only the headings in my document. Is it possible to get headings using advDigester?
A: Yes. In step 2, switch to "Yes, use the selected styles as a base for matching and grouping" option. Uncheck "Hide built-in styles" checkbox. From the list select all instances of Heading style (Heading 1, Heading 2, ... Heading 9). Do not select any grouping option. And that's it. You have only the headings. You can of course use any output formatting option to organize your output if you want.

  8. Q: What are wildcards and how can I use them?
A: Wildcards are a property of Microsoft Word which helps us to define inexact strings to match. advDigester uses this special characters to match inexact strings. You can find a list of it on Step 5. But if you need detailed information on wildcards, please refer to "Search by using wildcards" section in Microsoft Word documentation.
