ABC Amber PDF2Image Converter v2.08 - User Guide and FAQScreenshots - More DetailsWhat is PDF ? Short for Portable Document Format, a file format developed by Adobe Systems. PDF captures formatting information from a variety of desktop publishing applications, making it possible to send formatted documents and have them appear on the recipient's monitor or printer as they were intended. To view a file in PDF format, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free application distributed by Adobe Systems. What is BMP ? The Microsoft Windows Bitmap is widely supported and documented. It is one of several file formats supported by Windows and has become a PC standard, appearing in nearly all applications that support graphics. There are four versions of the BMP format, two for Windows: supporting Windows versions 1.x and 2.x, and two for OS/2: supporting OS/2 versions 1.x and 2.x, 3.x (for Windows 3.x and NT). Microsoft's involvement with IBM in the development of the OS/2 operating system precipitated the BMP's support for OS/2. When it was first developed, the BitMaP format was device-dependent to cater to the popular IBM PC graphics cards. Later, when it was released as a device-independent format, it was referred to as a DIB (device-independent bitmap). Now, any Windows bitmap is assumed to be in DIB format. The BMP image data can be uncompressed, or compressed using an RLE scheme. This compression scheme is not very effective for images with a wide range of colors. This type of image may increase in size during compression. What is TGA ? This file format was originally developed by AT&T for use with its image capture boards. The format was taken over by Truevision when it acquired the product line from AT&T. It is now commonly used for digitized images and also for high-quality images produced by ray tracers and other graphics applications. It became a popular file format mainly because it was the first 24-bit truecolor format to come to the PC market. There are several varieties of Targa files; the most commonly used are the Targa 16, Targa 24, and Targa 32. The names are derived from the type of hardware used to create them.
