Frequently Asked Questions - Infix PDF Editor

  1. Why do some hyperlinks move after editing?

Infix refolds text during editing but does not change the position of any hyperlink annotations as it does so. This means hyperlink and other kinds of annotation that used to sit over some text, may end up sitting over different text as the text refolds underneath them. The cure is to review the edits in Acrobat and move the annotation boxes as needed.

  2. How do I stop page numbers getting in the way when editing text across pages?

Before editing, use the 'Link Text Blocks' tool while holding down the 'Ctrl' key to select on those paragraphs to be edited. This way you can omit the page number from the text chain you build-up.

  3. Why is none of the annotation in my document displayed?

Infix only displays one kind of annotation - the 'Iceni Table Box' annotation as created by Infix or Iceni's Gemini software. All other kinds of annotation will still be retained in the PDF after editing, but will not be visible.

  4. How do I make bold, italic or underlined text?

Bold text can only be made if the bold version of a font is available in the document. The same is true of italic and bold Italic text.

  5. How do I underline text?

Underlined text requires the drawing of a thin line underneath the text and is not something this version of Infix can do automatically. If there are any straight lines in the document you could copy/paste a line and position it manually under the text to be underlined. You may also need to shrink/stretch the line to make it fit the text being underlined.

  6. How do I spell-check languages other than English?

This version of Infix supports only English spelling & hyphenation. It is anticipated that the next release add support for some major European languages.

  7. Why do all the font names start with random letters such as "AOHAKM+Courier"?

Subset fonts are given unique names by the PDF creator by putting letters in front of the names. It is possible for a PDF to have different subsets of the same font each with a different set of letters at the font and each representing different characters on the pages of the PDF.

  8. Why does my text disappear as soon as I edit it?

Infix reorders text within the PDF every time you edit it using the "Text Tool". In some circumstances this can cause the text to get put inside a clip or underneath another graphic object. You can use the selection tool to see if there is something covering the text and if so, move the object or if it is a clip, you may be able to delete it without any ill effects.
