Game tutorial
Once you have started the game, click the 'New File' button. Enter your desired username, email, etc. Then click the 'Join' button to send your request to join the Mindlink Agency.
You will recieve a response from the agency announcing you as a new mindlink agent. This is where it all begins...
The main game screen will load. On the bottom you can see your player information. This includes your username, email address (in the game), your computers configuration, how many servers you have cracked, your bank code, rank, time, and money. This should be fairly straightforward to understand as they are all labelled.
On the very left side you will see a column of small blue boxes that gradually get a lighter color at the bottom. These boxes can show you how much you are being traced. What does this mean? Well, sometimes when you are cracking into a server, the administrators of that server will notice, and try to track you down and report you to the authorities! The trace boxes will show you how much time you have left before you will be caught. So remember - when you are connected to a server, and the trace status is red, or less then a few seconds, disconnect! Get caught - and it's all over!
Just to the right of the trace boxes, in the next column, we have the menu options. Use these menus to open the tools you will use in the game. See down this page for information on the tools available.

- Can I upgrade my tools?
Yes, absolutely. Software and hardware upgrades are readily available from the 'basic' menu.
- Can you tell me about the BASIC tools?
What follows is a short description of each tool available from this menu.
Basic Lookup - This tool will give you basic information about a server in the game.
Dark Market - Here you can sell the files you steal for even more profit!
File Ripper - When you are connected to a server, use this tool to steal any files that exist on the server.
Hardware - Upgrade your hardware levels
Pass Cracker - Perhaps the most important tool in the game, you can use this tool to find and crack passwords.
Software - You don't start with all the tools! Some have to be purchased here, so if you can't find them, this is where to goes.
- Can you tell me about the ADVANCED tools?
This menu contains tools to connect to the News, Hacker and Chat servers, as well as an IP Lookup and Proxy tool. Here is a short description of each.
Hacker / Chat Servers - These are usually used to find targets, or computers, you want to crack into. Open the news server, for example, and double click on an item. Then search for any reference to another computer, such as an IP address. (E.g 124.43.2.35 [an IP address consists of 4 blocks of numbers, these are used to represent computers on the internet, in real life - and Mindlink 2005 : Underground). Double click on an IP address in the news or hacker servers and it will be instantly added to your 'Quick List'. This list simply allows you to quickly access IP address, to save you retyping or memorizing long numbers. Your quicklist is displayed also just to the left of the tracing column.
IP Lookup - Enter an IP address into this tool and it will give you all sorts of useful information! This is similar to the basic lookup, however it shows more information!
Auto Proxy - This tools will make it harder and take longer for you to be traced, giving you more time to steal money and/or files.
- How can I actually connect to a server in the game?
To connect to a server in the game, click on the blue 'CONNECT' button near the bottom of the menu. This will open the connect tool. All you need to do is enter an IP address.
- How can I make full use of the QuickList?
In the news and hacker servers you can automatically add IP addresses to the quicklist simply by double clicking on them. Now, when a tool asks you for a server IP address of hostname, you will notice a white arrow on either side of the input box. All you have to do is click these arrows and it will automatically scroll through your quicklist, making it faster than ever.
The quicklist can also be used for storing passwords and other data. If you save, quit, and reload the game later, the data will still be saved in the quicklist. To remove items from the quicklist, simply select the item you wish to remove and click 'Delete'.
- What is a Mask File?
This file contains information on servers you have cracked. Who knows what will come useful in the future?
- What are the system requirements for Mindlink 2005 : Underground ?
Recommended as a minumum is Windows 98 or newer, 233Mhz CPU Speed, 50MB of free Hard Disk Space, Compatible Sound Card, and 64MB of memory. Note some people experience a problem playing the game on Windows XP systems, however this is only in rare cases, most reports are the game runs fine.
- Can this game be used for real hacking or cracking?
No, Mindlink 2005 : Underground, is only a game. We do not support illegal activities, so please don't ask.
