Frequently Asked Questions - Quick Snooker
- 'Wrong Protocol or connection state'
If you see this error you should also notice a browser window has been launched explaining that your free internet play time has expired.
If you've had less than 7 days of free play - or if you see this error the first time you enter the 'waiting room' - another possible cause is that you are running an old version (pre 6.1.62) - the current 'genuine' version of QuickSnooker can always be downloaded from http://www.quickgames.co.uk/quicksnooker.exe
- Where can I find a 'Crack' ?
A 'crack' tampers with the QuickSnooker code - in theory to unlock the game for free. If you're prepared to cruise the darker side of the Internet - you might find one - we monitor them carefully most don't work, some are infected with viruses, some are 'Trojans' opening access to your computer. YOU ARE EXTREMELY LIKELY TO GET A VIRUS whilst attmepting to find or use a crack.
The behaviour of any 'cracked' version of the program cannot be guaranteed - it IS likely to damage your files or settings.
In short - DON'T RISK it - NONE of them work for on-line play anyway. There are lots of easy, and safe ways to pay and play.
- I can never be challenged ? (I am behind a firewall)
Firewalls are a complex subject - and we can't possbily cover every type here but all you should need to know is that Quicksnooker accepts incomming challenges on port 1001.
Most firewalls don't block the outbound connections to the waiting room (or the challenges you issue to other players) but if you want to accept (or even acknowlege!) challenges from other players you will need to 'open' port 1001 for inbound traffic on your firewall.
- Is the game a virus or might it contain one ?
No. The game and installation package have been scanned are free from all viruses.
- Gameplay is slow, jerky or flickery
The game should run at approximately 50 frames per second any any 200Mhz+ Pentium class machine.
Check you do not have other processor intensive taks (such as playing an audio CD, or MP3) running.
Sizing the window to less than about 800 pixels wide may help.
- DIXUINIT Error
You don't have Microsoft DirectX installed. It can be obtained from http://www.microsoft.com/directX or (more quickly) from many game or magazine cover disks. If you have Internet Explorer 4.0 or above you shouldn't get this problem.
- DIRECTX Errors
You might have Installed Apple QuickTime (possibly from a coverdisk). QuickTime and QuickSnooker don't seem to 'get on' for some reason - uninstalling QuickTime is reported to solve this problem.
- I get 'A required DLL file,MSVBVM60.DLL, was not found' when I try to start the program. How do i fix that ?
Your machine appears to missing the Visual Basic Runtime Libraries. These components are already installed on most machines and are quite large, so we have opted to leave them out of the installation package.
