2D Raster formats Raster images use a grid of colors known as pixels to represent images. Each pixel is assigned a specific location and color value. Most of the raster formats differs by compression type and additional features, such as amount of pictures stored in one file, picture transparency and color support. Raster formats images are the most common electronic medium for continuous-tone images, such as photographs or digital paintings, because they can represent subtle gradations of shades and color. 2D Vector formats Vector graphics are made up of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects called vectors. Vector describes an image according to its geometric characteristics. In vector formats drawing method applies such elements as coordinates of the points, segments, ellipses, arcs, and colors to create a drawing. Vector format is usually used for design drawings, schemes and diagrams storage. 3D Polygon formats 3D polygon formats are used to store objects in 3D modeling programs and games. Such files contain object vertexes, planes, surfaces, lights, animation keys, cameras and other information for the object rendering.
