Screen Capture
PixSmart includes an incredibly powerful and flexible screen capture system. This menu gives you full access to that system. The capture system configuration can be customized in the PixSmart Options screen.
Activate screen capture by:
- Selecting one of the items from the Capture menu.
- Press the F11 key. (This is the way it works by default. You can change the activation shortcut key in the PixSmart Options screen.)
- Follow directions below for each type of capture.
Capture object: Allows you to select any object that you see on your computer screen (whole screen, menu, button, toolbar, status bar, etc.) and capture it. Do this by:
- Selecting Capture object from the menu.
- Press F11.
- Without pressing any mouse buttons move your mouse pointer over the object you wish to capture. The selected object will be highlighted.
- Click your left mouse button. The selected object will be captured and displayed in PixSmart as a new image.
Capture active window: Allows you to capture the currently active window or screen on your Windows desktop. Do this by
- Selecting Capture active window from the menu.
- Selecting an open image by clicking on it or by selecting it from the list of open images that can be found at the bottom of the Window submenu on the Main Menu.
- Press F11.
- The active window will be captured and be displayed in PixSmart as a new image.
Capture desktop: Allows you to capture the entire Windows desktop as an image. Do this by:
- Selecting Capture desktop from the menu.
- Press F11.
- The Windows desktop will be captured and displayed in PixSmart as a new image.
Capture selection: Allows you to select any area of the screen and capture it. You can select from a menu of different shapes for your selection. These include:
- Rectangle
- Rounded rectangle
- Ellipse
- Triangle
- Polygon
- Freehand
You can capture a selection by:
- Selecting Capture selection and choose the shape to use for making the selection from the submenu.
- Press F11. The selection interface will appear.
- With the left mouse button pressed outline the selection you want to capture.
- Release the left mouse button.
- The selection will be captured and displayed in PixSmart as a new image.
Other captures: Allows for a number of other ways of capturing what you see on your screen. Use the F11 key to start the capture after selecting the desired item from the menu.

- Selected menu - Press F11 after expanding and selecting the menu to capture.
