Frequently Asked Questions - River Past Screen Recorder Pro

  1. I captured from a video window in Windows Media Player (QuickTime Player, RealOne Player). Why did I get a black window?
By default, all video players (and 3D games) use some kind of video acceleration. The graphics are drawn directly to the hardware without going through the Windows layer. In his case, screen capture applications cannot get the video image. This applies to all screen capture applications, not just River Past Screen Recorder.

To capture the image of a video player or a game, go to Windows Control Panel, open the "Display" control panel, go to the "Settings" tab and click on "Advanced...", you will be given the property pages of the graphics card. Select "Troubleshoot" tab, and move the "Hardware Acceleration" slider to "None".

You will notice a significant slow down of the video playback. However, you will be able to capture the screen with the video images, whether by using "PrtSc" button, or using River Past Screen Recorder.

Remember to set "Hardware Acceleration" slider back to "Full" once you finish your screen capture.

  2. How do I record from the speakers?
You can record all the sound the PC sends to the speakers by selecting the correct "Port" setting. Different sound card use different text for the speakers. You should look for "Stereo Mix", "Mono Mix", "WAV", or something similar.
