How to use AceReader as a Productivity Tool

Center Text Mode Option: To read better and faster while online, you will want to use the "Center Text Mode" option found under the "Options" menu. In "Center Text Mode", the words come to your eyes instead of your eyes going to the words. Text is presented in the center of the screen. You can sit back and focus on the center of the screen with minimal eye movement.

Other Options Settings: In addition to the "Center Text Mode" option, there are many other options available to help make your online reading experience more efficient and enjoyable: (1) font color, (2) font size, (3) background color, (4) number of words or lines, (5) delays and much more. All these options are found under the "Options" menu.

Pre-Set Productivity Modes: You can select a productivity configuration from the "Productivity Mode Default Option Settings" submenu found under the "Configurations" menu. Selecting any of the menu items found under the "Configurations" menu will set all the program options. You have the following productivity mode choices: "1 Word", "Narrow 1 Line" or "Narrow 2 Line". After you choose a productivity configuration, you can make further adjustments by going to the "Options" menu. All your current settings will be saved when you exit the program and will be applied the next time you start the program.

Clipboard: The clipboard is a simple but powerful feature. By utilizing the clipboard, you can read text from other applications like your favorite word processor and text from the internet (i.e. web pages, email, and news groups. Refer to the section "How to use the Clipboard" for more details on using the clipboard.

Clipboard

The clipboard is a simple but powerful feature that is built into your Windows operating system. The clipboard is just memory. It is a holding spot for data. You can use the clipboard to transfer data (i.e. text) from one application to another. Almost all applications support it (including AceReader). This section provides an example of how to use the clipboard to transfer text from your web browser into AceReader. You should be able to follow similar instructions for transferring text from other applications (i.e. email program, word processor, etc.).

Make Your Own Tests

Making your own tests is a matter of supplying text files in the "tests" sub-directory located where AceReader was installed (i.e. C:\Program Files\AceRead\tests). You can create these text files using your favorite word processor or text editor. They need to be plain ASCII text files, so if you're using a word processor, save the files as text (.TXT) type files. Refer to the bottom of this section for special one-time instructions that may be needed if you have Windows 95/98 or Windows NT.

Adding one test requires the addition of two files in the "test" directory, one that contains the story text, and the other that contains the test questions for that story. The two files for a test need to have the same name but with the appropriate file extension (.STY for the story file and .TST for the test question file). When creating test and story files, use all upper case for your file names.
