Basic Calculator

With CalcSupreme, input and calculated results can have up to 19 or 20 digits of precision and can range in absolute value from 3.4E-4932 to 1.1E+4932. By clicking on or tabbing to the Dec box, you can specify between 0-11 decimal places for display; thus you can limit the displayed precision to what is meaningful for a given application. With the radio buttons just below the Dec box, you select the manner of formatting the display. If you select Fix, there can be 18 digits left of the decimal before the display defaults to exponential (E) format. If you select Com (for commas), there can be 15 digits left of the decimal before default to E format. [E format: aE+x means a*10^x, aE-x means a*10^(-x) (^ denotes exponentiation)] Note that decimal places and format in use at time of program exit are automatically saved. These are retained the next time program runs.

Like all RPN calculators, CalcSupreme stores numbers on a stack. Its stack can accumulate up to 4K+1 (4097) floating-point numbers, but at any time, no more than the last four numbers entered are visible. For reference, the current entry is labeled X, and the previous entry, if any, is labeled Y. The entries previous to Y, if any, are labeled Z and T (for Top), respectively. For simple variables (on Science screen, Complex box not checked), the result of an operation involving both X and Y becomes X; if additional numbers were present before the operation, these drop one level in the display. With one exception, the result of an operation involving only X becomes X, with no drop of other displayed numbers. After the final number has been keyed or clicked into X, it is not necessary to press or click Enter before initiating an operation. Also, if stack contains data at program exit, a "save stack" prompt appears. If you then save it to a file, next time program starts, the Open File dialog automatically appears for your convenience should you wish to immediately retrieve that file or any other file.

Finance Calculator

To access the Finance Calculator, left-click View | Finance in the main menu or press Ctrl+F on the keyboard. The Basic Calculator remains in place and fully operable, with the Finance screen adjoining it. If you should change video resolution while Finance screen is visible, realign the two screens by closing and then reopening the Finance screen. To shift focus from Basic to Finance and vice versa, press the End and Home keys, respectively, or click on desired screen. If Finance screen is visible at program exit, it automatically reappears the next time program starts.

Like the Basic Calculator, Finance functions can be accessed entirely with mouse, entirely from keyboard, or with any desired combination of mouse and keyboard. For keyboard operation, each function is mapped to a particular function key (F1, F2, etc.) or combination (Alt+, Shift+, Ctrl+) thereof, as specified by the function-key number and color code shown on Finance screen. When the Finance screen is in focus, radio buttons are operable from keyboard by pressing the underlined key (with or without Alt key). Mouse and function-key operations do not depend on where the focus is.

The financial registers (31-35) store values for n, PV, Pmt, FV, and I respectively. Enter a numeric value into each of four registers (with the number in X, click Sto followed by the desired register button), and solve for the fifth value by clicking its register button, thus placing its solution in X. To recall and/or check the number stored in a financial register, click Rcl followed by the desired register button. In general, the time frame must be consistent for n, i, and Pmt; e.g., if n is entered as months, then i must be entered as monthly interest rate, and Pmt as monthly payment. Exceptions are interest-rate conversions: i_eff->i_nom; i_nom->i_eff with continuous compounding. Use the /12 button to convert an annual interest rate to a monthly rate and the *12 button to convert from years to months. Note that a $value which you pay out is entered as a negative number; a $value which you receive is entered as a positive number. This sign convention applies also to calculational results.

Science Calculator

To access the Science Calculator, left-click View | Science in the main menu or press Ctrl+S on the keyboard. The Basic Calculator remains in place and fully operable, with the Science screen adjoining it. If you should change video resolution while Science screen is visible, realign the two screens by closing and then reopening the Science screen. To shift focus from Basic to Science and vice versa, press the End and Home keys, respectively, or click on desired screen. If Science screen is visible at program exit, it automatically reappears the next time program starts.

Like the Basic Calculator, math/science functions can be accessed entirely with mouse, entirely from keyboard, or with any desired combination of mouse and keyboard. For keyboard operation, each function is mapped to a particular function key (F1, F2, etc.) or combination (Alt+, Shift+, Ctrl+) thereof, as specified by the function-key number and color code shown on Science screen. Exceptions are Alt+F4 and Alt+F6, which are dedicated MS Windows functions and are replaced by Alt+underlined key. When the Science screen is in focus, Plot, acos, and Bool are operable from keyboard as indicated (with Alt), and radio buttons and checkboxes are operable from keyboard by pressing the underlined key (with or without Alt). Mouse and function-key operations do not depend on where the focus is. Also, F10 works as indicated but leaves focus on the main menu; press Alt or Esc or click elsewhere to remove this focus.
