Frequently Asked Questions - Serv-U
- I am using the Serv-U and my friend who downloads from my computer says that the download speed is around 2kbps. I have not entered any speed limit, it is left blank. Please tell me how to increase the download speed at my USER side?
If you have no limit then there is no limit. There can be various reasons why the speed is low tho.
-first there is a send and receive buffer in the advanced server settings tab. Do not set that too small it will have an effect on your speed. You have to experiment a bit with it tho to get optimum speed since this can differ per isp. Around 40960 seems a nice value.
-If you have a half duplex modem then the speed can be severaly limited due to the restriction on your modem. Half duplex means basically that your upload speed suffers when you are downloading at full speed and vice versa.
-The same modem issue can be at the side of the user that logs on.
You can spy on the user and see his current download speed to see if he is even telling the truth. Not every ftp client seems to count properly.
