Frequently Asked Questions - File Lock
- I cannot lock or hide files/folders on CD-ROM and USB disks?
Under Windows 2000 and earlier system, you need to restart your computer after installed the File Lock, to enable the features for protecting CD-ROM. Under Windows XP you needn't restart your computer, but you must first eject the CD-ROM disk then insert it again to enable the feature. File Lock will not protect USB disks since there is no need to protect them.
- Is it possible to get my file decrypted if I forgot my private key for the encrypted file?
NO! If you forgot your private key, there is no chance to decrypt the encrypted files, so please always save the private key in safe place.
- Is "Disguise Folder" safe enough?
"Disguise Folder" can disguise your folder as a special folder in Windows, but it will not encrypt the folder or the files in the folder, so it is possible to get the real contents of the folder.
- My file/folder was locked, but I cannot find the item in the File Lock main window, so I cannot unlock it?

Sure, if you are the administrator user, then you can just add the folder or file to the list box any modify the item to clear the options "Lock this item" and "Hide this item", then the item will be listed in the list box but will not be locked or hidden. - If I locked a file on a drive, for example "D:\SomeFile.doc", then I changed the drive letter "D:" to "E:", will the file be still protected?
Sure, the file will be still protected. And the next time you launch the File Lock, you will find that the item will be automatically changed to "E:\SomeFile.doc".
