Erase Swap Files
Swap file is used by Windows to increase your available memory.
Swap file manages your computer's Virtual Memory.
If this file is not present, then Windows will recreate the file when user logs in on the system.
Normally its of double the size of RAM and is present in Windows folder in Windows 95\98 and Root directory of system drive in Windows NT\2000\XP but user can change the drive manually according to the size required.
Name of this file is Win386.swp in Windows 95\98 and pagefile.sys in Windows NT\2000\XP. Windows has a lock on his file.
So this option requires you to restart Windows, this file is deleted just before Windows login dialog box comes.
Go to your OS drive and check for this file. See the size of the file.
Click on Erase Swap File option.
Click on OK.
Click on Start Scan.
Restart your Computer.
Again go at the location of the file.
The size has been lessened.
That means that the new file is recreated by Windows after restart and the older file was deleted.
