Frequently Asked Questions - DHTML Menu Studio Professional Edition

  1. Which web browsers are supported by DHTML Menu Studio?
DHTML Menu Studio-generated code will work with all major browsers:
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6+
    • Netscape 6+
    • Opera 7+
    • Mozilla / Firefox
    • Safari

This code has been tested on Windows, Mac OS, and Unix platforms.

  2. I can't install DHTML Menu Studio. What should I do?
    Try one of the following:
    • If you are already running DHTML Menu Studio, please close the program before beginning the installation
    • Check available space on the drive from which you're installing the program as well as the drive on which the Windows system resides
    • If you're using Windows NT or Windows 2000 you may need to install the program with administrative privileges
    • Try re-downloading the program using an alternate link (it's available for both demo and full versions)

  3. How can I get two or more menus to work correctly on a single web page?
What you need to do is create two separate .dms files (menu documents) for both menus. There are a few important settings of DHTML Menu Studio which must be set in both documents in order to get the menus to work together.

First of all, you need to select the option: Output / Multiple Menus Support. Then, for the first menu, set the option: Output / Multiple Menus / Menu ID to "1" and for the second menu, set this option to "2". Please note that menu ID's must be different for each generated menu and must be incremented from 1 up.

Then, you should set the option: Output / Optimize size of generated JavaScript files. If both menus have identical functionality, use the same effects and features (e.g. fading effect, bitmap-based menu bar) you can set this option to "Yes" which will cut down the size of the generated JavaScript file. However, if the two menus use different settings (except for fonts and colors which don't have an influence on this option), you must set this option to "No". If you are in doubt, choosing No is the safest option. Of course you can try setting the option to "Yes" and verifying if both menus function as expected.

  4. Why does the menu work in preview but not on my webpage?
The problem is that you most likely customized some of the code (HTML or JavaScript) generated by the program. Another possibility can be interaction with other JavaScript code (in such case see Q3009 or keep reading if Q3009 doesn't help) -- or interaction with other CSS style sheet code which is very general, also affecting the menu.

What you need to do is use the "divide and conquer" approach: gradually add any code not generated by DHTML Menu Studio to the page to see at which point the problem starts occurring. You can also try commenting out different sections of the code (starting from commenting out all non-menu code sections and then enabling more and more code).

  5. How can I use images for menu items?
Instead of defining a regular (textual) menu item text, you can insert any HTML code, i.e. code which will render a menu item as image.
