Zero Assumption Recovery 7.9 - User Guide and FAQScreenshots - More DetailsSelection information This section displays number and size of the files selected. You may want to check the total file size with respect to the free space available on your target drive. It is not unusual to get a slightly larger amount of data than expected. This effect arises when multiple file versions (previously erased files) or duplicate files (e.g. when the file was moved, it may be recovered in both old and new locations) are being restored. Destination directory Specify the target directory (where recovered files will be placed). You may type the directory name, or browse for it using "..." button. ZAR will check that the path specified does exist and is writeable. WARNING: Avoid copying data onto the same physical device you are recovering data from. This may induce additional data loss. The following considerations apply:
"Overwrite" setting is not recommended for general use because of the following side effect: if there are multiple files with the same name in the same directory (typically several file versions - the latest one plus several previously erased versions), an arbitrary one will be picked, possibly overwriting the good file (with an older version in the above example). Progress indication The progress bar displays a percentage of total files size processed. File information displays number of files copied and the name of the file under processing. "Start copying" button Obviously, this button starts copying files to the target location. Image recovery Image recovery mode is specifically tailored to recover shots taken using digital camera. These shots are typically stored on some sort of a small-size, small-capacity removable storage, like Compact Flash memory, Memory Stick, Secure Digital and so on. These storage types are collectively referred to as a "memory card". Setting up You need to set the system up in such a way that your memory card is accessible as a disk drive. A setup involving an appropriate card reader device is good for most situations. If you do not have the card reader, or cannot use it for some reason (e.g. camera is using internal non-removable memory), you should try using the camera itself to access the memory card. It may be required that you switch to "Logical drive access mode" in disk access options to achieve proper access (this depends upon the implementation of the camera device driver).
