How to convert executable files (.exe) to services?

First, select the File -> New Service: command in the menu or click the Create button on the toolbar.

The further process of creating a service is presented as the sequence of the following wizard steps:

1. In the first step, you should select an executable file, specify Service Name, Display Name, Destination and also it is recommended to fill out the Description field.
  • Source - specify the path to the executable file in this field.
  • Service Name - specify the service name.
  • Display Name - specify the name that will be displayed in the Service Control Panel.
  • Destination - specify the location to save the service to.
  • Description - specify the description of the service, for example, what this service does.
Click the Next button after you fill out all the fields.

2. In this step, you should specify the service properties: startup mode, under what account the service should be started.

Logon account
  • System account - start the service under the system account.

If you select this launch type, the Interact with Desktop property becomes available. Select this checkbox to make the results of its work (opened windows, etc.) visible. Clear the Interact with Desktop checkbox if you want the service to run invisibly and users will not see anything.
  • This account - if you select this option, specify the account the service should be started under and its password. StartUp mode - specify the startup mode for the service:
    • Manual - start the service manually.
    • Automatic - start the service automatically at system startup.
    • Disable - do not start the service.
3. In this step, you can specify the time when the service should be started and the period to restart the service.

Use the following weekly schedule - select it if you want to start the service according to a schedule. Select either some weekday or daily, specify the startup time and click Add.

Use the following interval schedule - select it if the service should be restarted at the specified interval. Specify the interval the service should be restarted at.

4. Click the Finish button. You will see a message that the new service has been created.

Note that you can see the new service in the list in the main window of the program. You can change the service properties at any time. To do it, select the service in the list and select the File - Service Properties... command in the menu or click the Properties button on the toolbar.

Frequently Asked Questions - Exe To Service

  1. What is Exe To Service?
Exe To Service allows you to install any Windows executable, Visual Basic or Java script as a service. Windows services are background processes that do not interfere with the logged user's environment. Windows services are controlled by the Service Control Manager. You can start them on boot before the user logs on and control their execution remotely. Exe To Services also installs a simple service scheduler. Thus, you can also start services at a specified time.

You may want to install long-running mission-critical programs as services. By converting them to services, you receive full control over their execution, you do not allow a logged user to interact with these programs and you can run them in any security context regardless of the permissions granted to the currently logged user.
