Frequently Asked Questions - All Image
- What kind of disk drives is All Image designed to work with?
All Image was primarily designed to work with removable media (Floppy Drives, USB Flash Drives, etc). More and more people use their USB devices (USB Flash Drives, Digital Cameras, MP3 Players) to boot their computers and backup their files and All Image will help to manage these devices. All Image can also work with fixed media (Hard Drives) to backup and restore partitions and complete physical disk drives. Currently, there is no way to recreate disk drives from image files under MS-DOS.
- What is the difference between Logical Disk Drives and Physical Disk Drives?
A logical disk drive is a partition on a physical disk drive that has a drive letter assigned. A physical disk drive is the entire disk surface of a USB Flash Drive, Hard Drive, MP3 Player, Digital Camera, etc. A physical disk drive might contain several logical disk drives. See the documentation for a more thorough explanation with explanatory visual illustrations.
- Does All Image contain all features found in Floppy Image?
Yes, all features from Floppy Image have been incorporated and most of them are a lot faster, especially reading and writing floppy disks containing bad sectors.
- May we freely redistribute the Self-Exes we have created?
Yes, you may freely redistribute the Self-Exes you have created to a third-party if you have a licensed version of All Image.
- How do I create an empty floppy image using Virtual Drive Manager?
Click on the Create button and choose a size that would indicate a size of a floppy disk (360, 720, 1200, 1440 or 1680 kB). Please note that later Windows versions only support 720, 1440 and 1680kB formats.
- When should I use the Raw Image File format?
You should only use this format when you need to use the created image file in a CD or DVD-authoring software or when you need to write to it by mounting it to a drive letter using Virtual Drive Manager. Not all operations are supported with this format.
- Why do I get "Failed to write track xx (error: 0x00000017)" when writing to my USB Compact Flash Card?
Some older compact flash card readers have trouble when writing an existing image file onto a compact flash card. This is caused by bugs in either the card reader itself or the driver it uses. Use a newer compact flash card reader to solve the issue.
