XP Smoker 5.1 - User Guide and FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions - XP Smoker

  1. What does it mean when I receive an XtreamLok Alert error?
This error is caused by Xlok when the environment that is running is seen as unsafe, ie that the security could be compromised. Generally there is a debugger program loaded into memory at this time but sometimes an "innocent" program can trigger the error as they are doing something out of the ordinary. You should close all your applications in memory to determine which one is causing the error.

  2. One Button Auto Tuner - Slow Booting
This is due to XP Smoker cleaning your Prefetch files to eliminate startup problems with changed service configurations.

Your computer will boot slower for 2 to 3 boots due to the cleaning of your prefetch folder. This is normal and performance in booting will increase dramatically within 2 to 3 boots.

  3. One Button Auto Tuner - Wireless Devices
This issue has been fixed on 10/27/2005. XP Smoker Standard and Pro version 5.0 no longer disable the "Wireless Zero Configuration service" using the "One Button Auto Tuner". For others who have upgraded beforehand, can either redownload and upgrade their copy or follow the instructions below:

The One Button Auto Tuner uses the "Safe" Settings for the Windows XP Service Configuration.

Most people do not have wireless devices. Therefore for most people this is a useless service wasting resources.

The "Safe" Settings disable the Wireless Zero Configuration.

If you lose the usage of any wireless device when using the One Button Auto Tuner all you need to do is this:

    Open XP Smoker.

Under the "Tweaks" section click on "Services"

Click the "Query Stopped Services" button.

Find the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service and check the box for the Wireless Zero Configuration service.

Then click on the "Start Selected Services" button.

    Close XP Smoker.

    Reboot.

Your wireless devices should be working again. In addition you still have your good performance that the One Button Auto Tuner gave you.

  4. What is "Runtime Error '429' "
The error "Runtime Error '429' ActiveX Component Can't Create Object" is most likely caused by a program that is removing files that it isn't supposed to on uninstall. The program removed a component that is vital to XP Smoker.

To fix this, reinstall XP Smoker. If you still get this error after reinstalling XP Smoker you may need the Visual Basic 6.0 runtime files, or yours may be corrupted. By default, Windows installs these files. However, if a programmer wrote a bad uninstaller for his program that you uninstalled, it would remove these important files. To get them back, you can download them from Microsoft at the link below.
