  1. I am running Windows XP Pro with SP2 and all current updates installed . When I look at the information under the Operating System I see SP3 with all the hot fixes listed. Why?

    Windows XP saves the Post-SP2 hotfixes info under SP3 node.


  2. Where are the options saved?

    In a XML file:
    C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%\Application Data\gtopala\SIW\siw_init.xml (Win NT) or
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\gtopala\SIW\siw_init.xml (Win 9x)


  3. How can I find the Office 2003 Product Key?

    In the left pane expand 'Applications'. Select 'Microsoft Office'. In the right pane you can get the Product Key along with other informations.


  4. How can I check the version of PCIDEVS file?

    Tools --> Test --> Debug Info; PCI Database


  5. Does SIW accept command line arguments?

    SIW accepts only the '/log' command line argument. It creates a log file in the current working directory.


  6. The information about hardware is limited if the OS is Win95, Win98 or Win NT. Why?

    SIW uses WMI to gather information about hardware. By default, WMI is not installed for these Operating Systems. You can download WMI from Microsoft.


  7. My firewall triggers an alarm (this program is trying to transmit e-mail messages). Why?

    SIW checks if the local machine is running an SMTP server. A firewall may trigger a false alarm.
    SIW checks if the local machine is running any of following servers: pcAnywhere, VNC, RDP, SQL Server, Oracle, HTTP, Telnet, SSH, FTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, LDAP, XDMCP.


  8. Is SIW written in Java (Basic)?

    No, it isn't. SIW is 100% C++.
