Frequently Asked Questions - MemoryBoost
- How do I unlock MemoryBoost Pro?
When you first run the program, it will give you the option to purchase. Click the "purchase" button (even though you're not going to purchase, you're just going to unlock your copy). The purchase / unlock wizard will appear.
In this wizard, choose the second option (that is, "unlock") on the first page. Then follow the on-screen instructions. Once you type in the e-mail address with which you purchased the product, and your order number, the product will unlock for unlimited use.
- My games seem to stop every few minutes with MemoryBoost. Why?
This is when MemoryBoost reclaims memory, and you will notice the Tray Icon will display an exclaimation mark "!", and the computer will pause during this process.
MemoryBoost will flush all memory to disk and then rebuild it which can be a second to several seconds depending on how fast your computer is.
You can add the game to the "Avoided Programs" list in the Programs page of MemoryBoost so it will not reclaim memory while playing that particular game.
Or you can add more physical memory so MemoryBoost does not have to work so frequently to reclaim memory. This solution will also improve the overall performance of your computer.
- How can I change what the System Tray Icon displays?
Right click on the MemoryBoost Tray Icon and open the Manager. Then scroll down the page selection Icons on the left of the Manager until you see the "Options" selection. Click on Options to open that page in the manager.
You can change the Tray Icon settings by using the System Tray Icon pick list. For detailed information on what your options are, press the F1 key while that Options page is open to open the help file that explains the features on that page. There is a link on that help page, that gives you detailed information on the tray Icon settings.
- Can I run MemoryBoost as an NT service?
NT services are regular programs that abide by certain rules (e.g. they should not display windows on your screen) and that are instrumented to allow remote administration. MemoryBoost currently cannot be run as an NT service.
The utility of running MemoryBoost as a service is limited to remote administration. Running it as a service makes it no more effective on your computer. A number of our customers have expressed interest in our extending MemoryBoost to run as a service, and we are considering this extension for the next version of the product. Currently, however, it cannot be run as a service
- How do you stop the optimizer screen in MemoryBoost?
You can stop the "optimizing" screen in MemoryBoost by pressing the 'Esc' key on your keyboard while the screen is visible, or right-clicking the MemoryBoost icon in your system tray and choosing the "Stop running optimizer" entry from the menu that appears.
