Frequently Asked Questions - Allok Video Splitter

  1. How many video formats support in Allok Video Splitter?
Allok Video Splitter supports AVI, MPEG1/2, DVD(.VOB),VCD(.DAT), RM/RMVB, ASF/WMV, DivX, XviD, MPEG4 etc formats.

  2. Can I convert video files to XviD format?
Yes. You should install XviD codec. After install XviD codec, you can select Xvid in Video Codec combobox.

  3. Can it support DVD(.vob) files?
Not always, Allok Video Splitter supports DVD(.vob) files, but not supports some encrypted DVD. In addition you can install DVD CODEC and then try it again.

  4. Can it support RealMedia file(*.rm,*.rmvb) ?
Yes. But it is not reliable for all rmvb files. You must install RealOne Player before converting RM/RMVB file to other format.

  5. What is VBR Mode?
Variable bit rate (VBR) encoding is an alternative to constant bit rate encoding and is supported by some codecs. Where CBR encoding strives to maintain the bit rate of the encoded media, VBR strives to achieve the best possible quality of the encoded media.

The quality of encoded content is determined by the amount of data that is lost when the content is compressed and decompressed. Many factors affect the loss of data in the compression process, but in general, the more complex the original data and the higher the compression ratio, the more detail is lost in the compression process.

  6. What's a codec?
Codec stands for "Compressor/DECompressor". Every compressed video file uses a codec to decompress the individual frames for playback. There are a great many codecs. Some come with Windows, others must be downloaded and installed before you can play back the video. Some codecs are not compatible with DirectX, which is what our converter uses to decode the video frames, in which case you will not be able to encode the video using Allok Video Splitter. Try getting the latest version of the codec, it might work with our converter.

  7. Can it support VCD(.DAT) files?
    Yes.

  8. Can I convert a single file?
Yes. You can use it as a Video Converter.
