Step 1: Adding topic files
Adding topic files is the first task you should to do. The easiest way to add topic files is to use the mouse to drag and drop files onto the Contents window from the built-in Resource Explorer (see Figure 1) or Windows Resource Explorer or Windows Find Dialog.
Step 2: Compile to CHM
After all topic files are added, you can execute the Compile to CHM command to generate the HTML Help file (.CHM file).
Creating Context-Sensitive Help
Context-sensitive help is typically accessed by pressing F1, but you can specify any key to activate context-sensitive help. You can create context-sensitive help for many of your program's interface elements. In dialog boxes or windows, users can display help by clicking an interface element, and then pressing the F1 key or the key you specified.
Step 1: Prepare a .h file
Step 2: Import this .h file
Step 3: Assign topic files to Help Context IDs
Step 4: Compile to CHM

Frequently Asked Questions - Fly Help

  1. What is CHM?
A CHM file is a self-contained file system, equivalent to a hard driver. You cannot refer to items "above" the root of a CHM file. It is similar to that you can not refer to items "above" the root of a hard driver. Unlike real hard drivers, you also can't access other "drivers" through an inter-CHM file jump because a CHM file only has one "driver".

  2. How to get the latest HTML Help run-time files?
You can download the latest HTML Help Installation and Update Package (HHUpd.EXE) from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/htmlhelp/html/vsconHH1Start.asp The HTML Help Installation and Update Package (hhupd.exe) will install the latest Html Help run-time files to your computer.

  3. Why can't my images in HTML files that were generated by Microsoft Word be showed?
There is a well-known problem with Word-generated HTML files: when compiled into a .chm file, the images fail to appear. Running the files through the Office 2000 HTML Filter usually fixes this problem. You may find the Office 2000 HTML Filter from http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/2000/Msohtmf2.aspx and download it for free.

  4. Why can I not Full-text search?
CHM file Full-text search supports only Html files.
