Frequently Asked Questions - Web Link Validator
- How to find out which pages contain a specific
broken link?
Perform the following operations to find pages containing
a specific broken link:
- Select the broken link in the List of Links pane.
- Press the Link Properties button (or select Edit -> Link Properties
from the main menu).
- Click the Parents tab in the link properties pane.
You can also select the Pages with broken links filter and view all
pages containing the broken links.
- Will Web Link Validator work through a proxy
server?
Yes, please select Options -> Proxy in the program.
- What kind of criterion do you use for identifying
a certain page as "slow", "new", "old" or "small"?
It is determined by the profile settings. Please
select Action -> Edit profile -> Page Optimization in the program.
- How can I exclude certain links from being checked?
Use the Exclude Links section of the profile. Please
see Action -> Edit profile -> Exclude Links.
- What is different between the profile sections
"Verify Links" and "Exclude Links"?
The links matching the mask specified in the "Verify
links" section will be added to the list, but won't be verified and
processed. The excluded links won't be added to the list at all.
- Can Web Link Validator validate the availability
of email address links?
Yes, but in the Link List mode only. To verify all
email addresses after verifying the Web site, follow the steps below:
- Select the "Protocols - mailto" filter
- Select all links (Ctrl-A or Edit -> Select All)
- Press the "Copy" button (Edit -> Copy to Link List)
- Select the Link List mode (View -> Link List)
- Select all links (Action -> Select All)
- Press the Verify button (Action -> Verify)
Unfortunately, the mailto protocol does not technically support verification
of email addresses; therefore, the result of such verification cannot
be completely accurate. According to the statistics, approximately
9% of all the broken email addresses appear to be valid.
- Can I pause the verification and continue it
later from the stopping point?
Yes, use the "Action -> Continue broken and aborted
links" item (Action -> Continue broken and aborted links).
- Does Web Link Validator support JSP / ASP / PHP
/ FCGI / CFM / etc?
Yes, it supports all kinds of dynamic Web pages that
comply with the HTTP(S) standards.
