Logging Settings

The Logging settings contains general settings for how the activity and report log windows will behave.

  • Do not warn when viewing disabled logs
If you do not want to be warned when viewing a log that is disabled.

  • Refresh log data when window is first displayed
If data should automatically be retrieved when a log window is first displayed.

  • Automatically refresh log data every minute
If data in the log window should be automatically refreshed every minute.

  • Only retrieve the first X entries
If you want to limit the number of entries that will be retrieved from the database. It is recommended to check this button if you are viewing a large database and want to protect yourself from long query times, large memory usage and slow operation.

The Activity settings contains settings for automatic logging of host activities to an ODBC data source. Its options are listed and explained below.

  • Default logging level
This defines the default logging level (for the 'Activity Log'). All type of events that are below the log level you set will be logged, i.e. 'Error', 'Warn' and 'Info' events will be logged if the logging level is set to 'Info'. The 'Debug' level should only be used when trying to solve a specific problem.

  • Allow disconnects for X seconds
This value defines for how long time log entries will be queued in memory if the database connection is interrupted. If the connection cannot be restored during this time a warning dialog is displayed.

  • The Manage... button
To create a data source to be used for the report log, click on the Manage... button. This will display the ODBC Data Source Administrator window that will let you manage the data sources on your local computer. To add a new data source just click on the Add... button and complete the wizard. Once you have selected a data source to be used System Monitor will setup all required tables automatically.
