RelayFax Server 6.7 - User Guide and FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions - RelayFax Server

  1. Why do faxes come in scrunched?

The scrunched faxes are normally fixed by using the flow control that most modems use. To turn it on (may vary from modem manufacturer to manufacturer) is by using some switches in an INIT string. The basic ones are &k3 and &k4.
In RelayFax you will need to go to the properties of your com port and add one of these at a time (find which one works best) to the middle of the INIT string. If both of those don't help, you will need to contact your modem manufacturer to find out the proper command and add in.

  2. Why don't the printer drivers for RelayFax install on Windows 2003?

RelayFax uses kernel mode printer drivers, which Windows 2003 does not allow by default.

  3. Can I manually trigger RelayFax to rescan ports for modems?

You can utilize the Rescan Ports feature by clicking on either its Toolbar button or its icon listed under the Fax Devices section of the Tool Window. When this control is clicked, RelayFax will attempt to automatically detect all fax devices accessible to the RelayFax Server. Occasionally, you may need to rescan your ports after starting RelayFax or in the event of some error. If the server is unable to detect your modem you can use the Manual Add feature to enter your modem's information manually.

  4. How do I Include a Fax Password when sending the fax via an Email Client?

When RelayFax processes an email message in preparation for faxing, it studies the message carefully to determine where and to whom the fax should be sent. Most of the time this information will be specified on the line, however it is possible to specify several key items within the email message itself. The faxpassword macro can be used for including your fax password within the message. If RelayFax is configured to require a password then you must use this macro to include it, when sending a fax via an email client.

  5. How do I install the RFViewer on client machines?

Installing the RelayFax SMTP Client on a workstation will also install RFViewer - a simple utility for viewing and printing a fax image file. This software utility will be associated with the proper extensions for opening and printing TIF documents. If an existing software package is found associated with the TIF extension, that registry entry will be saved under the 'edit' shell command. Use the blue arrow keys to move from page to page in a multi-page fax.

  6. How can I View a Received Fax from the RelayFax server?

    From the RelayFax GUI:
    1. Select the Received tab from the bottom right corner of the user interface.
    2. Select the fax that you would like to view.
    3. Right click on the highlighted fax.
    4. Select the View/Edit option.
This will load your default .tif viewer allowing you to view the fax.

  7. How do I enter my Fax ID string in RelayFax?

    From the RelayFax menu bar:
    1. Click File to open a drop down menu.
    2. Click RelayFax Properties to open a dialog box.

    4. Click the Apply button.
    5. Click the OK button.

    From the RelayFax menu bar:
    1. Click File to open a drop down menu.
