Software NewsiRiver Maker VS iPod"No hardware company can survive alone," Frank Lim, Reigncom's director in charge of marketing and planning for its iRiver players, said in an interview on Thursday. "We have shifted our strategy focus from music players to entertainment devices." Reigncom's latest player Clixis is a flash-based MP3 player with a 2.2-inch LCD screen that allows users to view movies and photos. It offers a subscription-based music service from MTV Networks. Lim said he expected Clix to be sold in retailers Best Buy and Wal-Mart Stores in July, in time for the crucial holiday seasons. "iRivers used to be pricey. Now, we want our products to be something more friendlier, cute, easy to buy." "I think we will see a remarkable recovery in earnings, starting in the third quarter," Lim said, citing the expected success of the Clix. "Connectivity is our new strategy," Lim said, pointing to the company's new product lineup, which it hopes will revive its fortunes. Last month iRiver Pocket TV enables users to watch digital multimedia broadcasting and listen to radio. The model symbolizes the company's move away from music-only as well as to a lower-priced player. Lim said the iRiver Wing could be adapted to types of wireless broadband technologies.
